More about Mathxercise

The Mathxercise programme was created by Jenny Uys, owner and head coach of Mathxercise. Jenny has long observed that as a result of modern life, many young children are getting less opportunity to engage in physical exercise and play, and a growing number of children  are struggling with mathematics at school.

Her observations are backed up by research on child development. It is well established that learning in young children happens as a full body experience. This includes the learning of basic numeracy skills.

It is the link between these two aspects (movement and learning) that sparked the idea to create a programme which tackles both issues simultaneously.

Our mission

Our mission: reduce the anxiety children often feel around math, and inspire them to fall in love with numbers through a fun, non-threatening learning environment, all the while improving their physical and social skills.

Jenny uys

Hi, I’m Jenny, owner and head coach of Mathxercise. With a BSc in Biological science and a long background in fitness and coaching, I decided to start the Mathxercise programme. I am a firm believer in the mental and physical benefits of exercise for children as well as adults.  Living a healthy lifestyle and keeping fit is my passion. Apart from working with my MathXercise kiddies, I am an avid runner (completed 4 Comrades marathons and two 2 Oceans ultra marathons),  manager and coach of the Run Walk for Life Kimberley franchise and athletics club, ASA level 1 coach, technical official, road measurer and referee.

Henco Uys

Hi, I’m Henco, head instructor at MathXercise. As the Mathxercise family has grown to quite a bit over the past few years, with the increasing number of new faces came the need for some extra help. I bring a new dynamic to the Mathxercise lessons with my jokes and my number story telling. I have over 3 years of experience as a Mathxercise instructor and love helping children reach their goals.
