CLEVER AND FIT KIDS

Our program helps children grasp the fundamental mathematical skills needed to start their school careers, through a physical program which combines numerical skills with movement.

Mathematics through Movement

Mathxercise is an extra-mural  physical exercise programme, operating in Kimberley and Bloemfontein which promotes mathematics through movement. According to neuroscience research, memory and movement are linked – especially in the foundation years of a child’s life. This is why active learning (where the child is moving, acting and interacting) is critical for their development and speeds up the learning process.

It's time to move and learn

What makes our program unique is that we provide a solution for two important childhood developmental areas, in just one session. Not only are we improving your child’s mathematical and physical skills, but the combination of both means that your child will grasp these skills at an accelerated pace.

Physical activity is crucial to a child’s physical and mental development.  Children who are physically active are healthier, have longer attention spans and have fewer behavioral problems. Our program focuses on improving their physical fitness, posture and muscle tone.

Babies

6 MONTHS – 24 MONTHS

Mathxercise is developed for babies as young as 6 months old. Yes, you read that correctly, 6 months old!

The first few years of a child’s life shape their future development more than any other period in their lifetime. It is therefore essential to ensure that your baby’s developmental milestones are reached, and Mathxercise helps in doing just that! Our programme focuses on the development of fine and gross motor skills which are essential for your baby’s growth and independence. These skills help your baby explore the world around them, promoting cognitive, speech, and sensory development. Without well-developed gross and fine motor skills, a child will struggle with many daily tasks, requiring coordinated movements, such as eating or packing away toys. Mathxercise helps prevent any early motor delays which may interrupt development.

Now for the mathematical part. You might be thinking, but how can my 6 month old possibly grasp a mathematical concept? Although your baby might not yet understand what a number is, it is beneficial to start introducing them to numbers, colours and shapes through a sensory experience. This creates familiarity and associations with these concepts in their minds, creating a strong foundation for their mathematical development.

Children

3 YEARS – 7 YEARS

Children in this age group are still growing, learning and exploring the world around them. They are still in a critical stage of  development and need proper stimulation to refine their skills.

The movements and activities in our lessons help to improve their fine and gross motor skills. These skills are essential for completing activities such as grasping small objects, writing, using a scissors etc. (fine motor) or catching, throwing, kicking etc (gross motor). The enhancement of these skills leads to the improvement of their balance, posture and physical fitness.

Since children this age can start to understand and remember mathematical concepts, we focus on number recognition, counting and comparing numbers as well as colour, shape and size recognition throughout our lessons.

Children this age learn through their senses, exploring, playing and movement. Our classes incorporate movement and sensory stimulation throughout, making learning fun and seem like play.  Mathxercise stimulates and develops children, preparing them for the demands and challenges of school and life later on.
